BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal is a highly accomplished and dedicated medical professional with a wealth of experience in the field of Public Health and Community Medicine. She currently serves as the Dean, Chairperson and Head of the Department of Community Medicine at the Faculty of Public Health in King Edward Medical University, Lahore.

Prof. Afzal received her medical degree from King Edward Medical College and went on to specialize in Internal Medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. She furthered her education by obtaining an M.Phil and Ph.D. in Public Health from King Edward Medical University. With her extensive academic background and professional expertise, she is a highly regarded faculty member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Lahore Pakistan and King Edward Medical University Lahore.

Prof. Afzal's expertise and contributions to the field have been recognized globally. She is certified in Research Methodology from the World Health Organization (WHO) and in Curriculum Development from Johns Hopkins University, USA. As the editor of the highly reputable, flagship research journal "Annals of King Edward Medical University, Lahore," Prof. Afzal has published more than 100 research papers in national and international medical journals.

Her research interests are varied and include epidemiology, preventive medicine, health education, curriculum development, environmental health, occupational health, and maternal and child health. Prof. Afzal has provided technical consultations to international organizations such as UNICEF and has worked as a Public Health Expert in research projects in collaboration with Purdue University, USA.

Prof. Afzal has been involved in numerous projects, both national and international, aimed at improving health outcomes for communities. She has contributed to pretesting, training, post-testing, planning, evaluation, monitoring, and auditing of projects designed for rural areas and vulnerable populations. Additionally, she has served as a consultant and Public Health Expert in the Project for System-Oriented Health Improvement and Promotion (SOHIP Project).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal played a pivotal role in the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Pakistan. She assisted the Punjab Health Department as a member of the Corona Expert Advisory Group (CEAG). Additionally, she published a number articles on COVID-19 and continues to supervise further research in this area.
